>iPhone / iPad – OS 4 revealed (UPDATED WITH VIDEO)

>You won’t get your hands on it until the new iPhone is out in June but still….

There will be a lot to be excited about.

Any “competitors” should be shaking in their boots.

The things that stand out for me are…

1) iAds

While Google jumped in and paid 25% more then Apple were offering for AdMob and stole the deal, Apple then acquired Quattro. Now the FTC are looking like they may scupper the Google/AdMob deal on competition grounds, meanwhile Apple’s acquisition of Quattro has some real meat on the bones with iAds coming this Summer. What looked like a lose for Apple is turning rapidly in to a win.

From what I have seen of the iAds this is groundbreaking. Firstly you don’t have to come out of an app to view the ad and secondly these ads are like mini interactive apps that are fun to engage with.

The BIG deal here is that after seeing how iAds work I thought “well this is how it should ALWAYS have been done, why hasn’t it always been like this?” – and that’s the clincher.

Apple has a captive audience of 85million (and growing rapidly) using it’s mobile platform who will be interacting with iAds from this Summer.

Google watch out. You may be on the verge of losing the mobile ad space. Seriously.

2) Game Center

Apple will open up their own Social Media experience on their mobile computing platform with Game Center. Interact with other users all over the world. It’s their version of Xbox Live on a mobile platform. This has the potential to be awesome and another excellent way to keep users on the platform for good.

3) Multitasking

Multitasking in itself is a nice to have but the sacrifice you have to make is in battery life and the choppiness and unresponsiveness (is that even a word? gimme a break it’s EARLY!) that generally affects the OS when multiple apps are running. Until now.

Apple seem to have come up with a way of running multiple 3rd party apps (SERVICES really) in the background that you can switch between with minimal degradation to your battery life and NO task manager required.

4) iBookstore on iPhone.

You will be able to download and read millions of books on your iPhone – just like the iPad.

NOTE: iPhone OS 4 will only be able to run in it’s entirety on the iPhone 3GS, newer iPod touch, iPad (from Autumn), and of course the iPhone HD coming end of June. I suspect older models with get an update to 3.5 with some of the features of OS4.

Apple are telling us that iPhone OS 4 will be available in the Summer. (This translates to when the iPhone HD is released at the end of June!) 😉
