>iPhone/iPod touch typing tips!

>This was going to be a PM to Thomas Power since he mentioned he is moving to iPhone but probably keeping his Blackberry for email. He didn’t elaborate but I suspect it may be that he finds typing longer emails or Blogs on the keyboard difficult.

I figured everyone could benefit from Ty’s Typing Tips…! wink

1) Don’t try too hard to be pixel-perfect. Although in portrait mode the keys appear quite small, the keyboard is highly intelligent.

Just hit the keys – your typing will be analysed and the most likely word will appear in a small popup.

If this is the word you want simply press the spacebar (it doesn’t matter that you haven’t finished typing the word) and the full word will appear followed by a space. Even if you have made a mistake, keep typing to the end of the word as the correct suggestion should appear.

If the word is NOT the word you want then at any time just press the X next to the suggested word and it will go away.

Note: If, for example, you type “P” then the keyboard intelligently resizes the touch areas for the other letters – for example making the vowels bigger and Z, X, J or other letters that don’t follow “P” much smaller. This helps you to just bang away at the keyboard but still end up with the correct suggested word, even if as you type you are making mistakes.

2) If you want a full-stop at te end of a sentence, don’t waste time going to the punctuation scree – just double tap the spacebar! A full-stop and space will be entered.

3) When you need punctuation try this. Rather than tap the punctuation button and release and then hitting the punctuation you require, tap and HOLD the punctuation button and SLIDE your finger to the appropriate punctuation and release. This way you can do all your punctuation with one tap!

4) Double-tapping Shift (the up arrow) will give you CAPS LOCK.
