iPhone: The next generation…

OK so you may have heard that there is something big happening this week. If you haven’t heard then you won’t be able to avoid it later this week.

The next iPhone is being announced on Tuesday.

Now you will notice the big story is whether the next iPhone is going to be a completely resesigned device called the iPhone 5 or a slightly spec-bumped and tweaked model called the iPhone 4S.

I Blogged in December 2010 that I was expecting something like an iPhone 4+. Let’s see.

Anyway the fact of the matter is that any new hardware is completely secondary.

The big deal on Tuesday, despite what you will read just about everywhere, is iOS 5 and iCloud.

THESE are the killer combination that will put the iOS platform far out of reach of “competitors”, the hardware is secondary.

The majority of existing iOS users will be able to take advantage of this amazing combination of new operating system features and Cloud based interaction, however there is ONE reason why everyone will want to upgrade to the new model.

Apple has long been putting together some serious speech technology combined with some advanced APIs that will allow some pretty incredible voice interaction with the iPhone. This is the main new feature that will require processor and RAM boost above existing models.

I won’t spoil the fun, but just you wait until you see this stuff. Pretty cool.

This is probably the biggest iOS announcement to date as it will solidify the iOS platform and crush the hopes of lesser platforms.

I will be back on this Blog to update it with news and thoughts as everything rolls out.

Enjoy the ride.
